A New World
Its like discovering a whole new world becoming a parent. Not just finding out what its like to be up at 4am but everything is different, I feel like I am only just beginning to explore the world as a mom.
Sunday we decided to go into town. It was like a big adventure; packing the suitcase for all eventualties and discovering the unknown terrain of city centre shopping with a pram in tow. Suddenly you start to notice everything, like the fact that a massive shopping centre car park has absolutely 0 mother and baby parking spaces - I mean how is it feasibly possible to park in a tiny space and open the door wide enough to get a car seat out - there is no chance. I would need to get there early in order to get a space on the end of a row to be able to open the door! You would think that this kind of place would cater for this.
But we had a really good time actually, pushing the pram around and having a look around the shops and Emily was very well behaved, sleeping through it all. Mind you the one shop, where we both wanted to get something from, was a total kid free parent free zone - not only was there no lifts but the music in the shop (which usually is great) is so loud that it would probably have burst Emily's tiny little ear drums. But we still managed to shop there, we just had to take it in turns waiting outside with the pram!!
All in all the adventure into town was a success and really good fun. But I feel like there is a lot more disovery to be done and this is only the start...
Even worse than no parent/baby parking spaces are places where there ARE the spaces but people with no children have parked in them. Though it does give you the opportunity, after you've man-handled the baby out of the normal-sized parking space to say, loudly, "Oh my god - those people have lost their baby!" when you walk past, something we also intend on teaching Cordy when she's speaking in whole sentences.
