Fun Packed Weekend

What a fun packed weekend we've had. Yesterday, as the weather was nice we decided to have some quality family time together and go to Belfast Zoo. We have never been there before and have always wanted to take Emily when she was at the right age to enjoy it. I am slightly unsure about zoo's - I know they are good for conservation but I still can't help feeling a bit funny about containing animals away from their natural habitat.

Anyway, we all had a great, although very exhausting day. The zoo is all up hill which is not great when you are pushing a pram around! Also, because of the weather most of the animals were indoors which was a bit disappointing. But we did manage to see the elephants and giraffes which Emily was really excited about. Although within a couple of minutes she said "Poo! What's that smell?!" As you can see from the photo she held her nose from then on!

Today, unfortunately Warren had to work so I took Emily and Harrison to meet up with my friend Susan at the Chinese New Year festival in Belfast. It was great, although very busy. Prams are not meant for big crowds, although the buggy board was great as I didn't have to worry about Emily wondering off. We saw dancing dragons and Emily even made her own little piggy. So all in all a great weekend. I am ready for a big lie down, cup of tea and chocolate!

Oh and you should already know (from Warren's post) that the photo section of the website is now working so have a look! I will be updating it very soon with our zoo pics and other gorgeous photos.

Last of the Moses Basket

For about a week now Harrison has been sleeping in his moses basket inside the the cot. I suppose the main reason I hadn't got around to put him directly into the cot was that I needed to give it a good old thorough clean and I just never seemed to find the time.

So I got my act together a couple of nights ago, cleaned the cot and that night Harrison slept with lots of extra space for the first time. I think we were both a bit sad to put him up at first, as he has been sleeping downstairs with us until we went to bed and it was just nice having him around. It was also the first time we had used the monitor too, because he has never been far from us.

But as you can imagine it all went smoothly, he stretched out with his arms, probably glad of the extra room and slept snuggly all night.

Another landmark reached. He is growing so quickly. So now we have to decide what to do with the moses basket...

First Night Out

Friday was my first night out away from 'the kids'! How strange does that sound? It was a very civil trip to my friend, Susan's house, where we drank wine, watched crappy TV, ate lots of yummy things and had grown up conversation. I honestly can't remember the last time I was able to have a proper uninterrupted conversation. It was bliss.

I was almost going to cancel as most nights I am exhausted, but I decided to go for it and even got Susan to pick me up so I could have a proper drink! Once we got started talking I could've stayed there all night. I need more nights like this, I think I will just have to try and schedule more in.

How Warren and I are going to get out together is another thing altogether and something that we both desperately need. So maybe that will be our next big challenge. If there is anyone out there reading this who is nearby and willing to babysit just let us know!!! :)

Another Thumb Sucker

Well it looks like we have another thumb sucker! Harrison has been going through a growth spurt over the past week and has been feeding constantly again. In fact one evening last week he fed for 3 hours solid - no joke. He wasn't sleeping or using me as a dummy or he didn't take any breaks, he just guzzled for the whole time. I was nearly pulling my hair out by the end of it, it was just too much! He has been feeding a lot for the rest of the week too and the past couple of days he has been quite sicky, which just makes him want more too.

So today, after feeding all morning at Moms & Tots, then I went to my friends house where I fed twice in the afternoon, I just felt like I needed a break. He started to get unsettled again and instead of feeding him I just rocked him in the rocking chair. Eventually he found his thumb and sucked away on it until he fell asleep! It was so funny to watch.

Maybe one day he will have a rubby too. We will just have to see. Although Emily says that he can share her rubby - how sweet! :)
